POSM Central GIS Visual Guide
Use the POSM Central GIS workspace to view and interact with the organization's configured GIS data.
Select a highlighted area of the interface to open the related help topic.
How to use the Visual Guide
Move your pointer over the interface.
When you hover over a clickable area, it will be highlighted in POSM orange. Select the highlighted control to open the related help topic.
GIS workspaces vary by organization
The layers, fields, asset information, symbology, and other GIS features available depend on the organization's GIS configuration.
GIS Workspace
The workspace name appears near the top of the left panel.
A workspace represents a configured GIS map and its associated data.
A city will commonly work with a single workspace, while an organization such as a contractor may have access to multiple workspaces for different customers or projects.
Use Switch to return to the workspace selector and open another available workspace.
Layers
Use Layers to control which GIS information is displayed on the map.
Depending on the workspace, layers may include gravity mains, manholes, faults and observations, and other customer GIS data.
Basemaps
Use Basemaps to change the background map.
Available options include:
- Street
- Satellite
- Dark
Symbology
Use Symbology to control how applicable GIS information is displayed.
Options can include:
- Single Symbol
- Unique Values
- Graduated
- Proportional
- Rules
- Flow Direction
- Flow Pulse
- Reset to Default
Legend
The Legend identifies the layers, symbols, and classifications represented on the map.
The left-panel Legend provides detailed layer symbology, while the collapsible map Legend appears in the upper-right corner of the workspace.
Bookmarks
Use Bookmarks to save the current map location and zoom level.
Saved bookmarks allow you to quickly return to frequently used areas.
Work Orders
Use Work Orders to group GIS features that need attention into a field task.
GIS assets can be added to a work order and provided to a field crew using POSM Map Reader.
Advanced Search
Use Advanced Search to build detailed searches using GIS layers, fields, comparisons, and values.
Multiple conditions can be combined to locate a specific group of GIS features.
Attribute Table Search
Use the search field along the bottom of the workspace to quickly locate GIS records using IDs, attributes, addresses, or other available values.
For more complex searches, use Advanced Search.
Interactive Map
Use the map to:
- Pan to another location
- Zoom in or out
- Review the GIS network
- Click mapped features
- View asset information
- Locate inspection information
- Work with mapped assets
Save GIS Setup
Use Save to preserve the current GIS map configuration.
Saved settings can include layer visibility, layer order, symbology, labels, and other map display settings.
Share a Map View
Use Share to create a link to the current GIS map view.
Shared GIS map links are separate from the POSM Central inspection Share feature.
Interface Theme
Use the theme control to switch the POSM Central GIS interface display.
The interface theme is separate from the selected GIS basemap.
